It gets about 2-3 hours a day that's on a good day. we took your advice and bought a spray for black mould. I cut off the dead leaves and peppers that were affected .

Hi, Sharon,
I would expect to have grown the last few weeks as outdoor conditions get darker and damper. How much sun does it get each day?

Thank you for your advice. We have had the pepper plant since May of this year and it has been under the plastic since then. We have only just noticed the black mould in the last couple of weeks.

Hi, Sharon,
How long have you had the plant? How long has the plant been under plastic? It sounds like your pepper has a fungus called Alternaria alternata - which is commonly referred to as Black Mould (exactly what it looks like!). It is common on many fruits and veg, including tomato and pepper. It is usually associated with moisture, particularly from heavy dew, rain and overhead irrigation. Warm, humid weather makes the condition worse since these are the ideal conditions for the fungus to grow. Given that yours is in a plastic covering, I would assume that lack of air circulation and too much moisture within the plastic have made the right conditions for the mould to grow. Perhaps you could remove the plastic or make the opening larger during the day - especially on warm, sunny days, and then close it up (though not completely) at night? Also, you can buy a fungicide at a local garden centre to help get rid of the problem right now but too moist conditions will cause it to grow again.

Following my previous post, this is the current set up for the plant, but normally it is closed/tied shut to protect it.

We have a problem with our pepper plant in that there is mould both black on the leaves, and a beige fur on the stalks. Although it is still producing fruit, the fruit is now getting small black spots on them. What can be done to eradicate this? It is on the west aspect of the garden and is under a plastic 'home made' cover with stakes to keep it away from the plant. Can the plant be trimmed to remove the bad parts to prevent the whole plant being infected?
