Yes, it can. However, given its mature size, it will need to be repotted every 1-2 years after planting and once it has reached the largest size you and the space it is in can manage, it will need to root-pruned every 3-4 years so the roots don't crowd the container. Also, it will need regular feeding in the growing season. Finally, the years that you don't root prune, be sure to top dress the container with fresh compost.
