Listing for this plant says it is hardy to H4 but needs shelter from cold winds. You could always give it a bit protection over winter just to be on the safe side. Personally I don't have thIs plant in my garden so maybe someone else here in Scotland will give you their opinion. Cheers! Angie

I have a callicarpa growing well in a pot in South London. Am about to move to Falkirk - does anyone know if this will grow up there?

Hi Katy,
I thought it wasn't getting enough sun, so I moved it. But maybe I'll try somewhere else. Also, being new at this I have never pruned it.

When you say permanent framework.... how tall is that approximately?
Right now its about 2 feet high.

Should I do it now?

Thanks.

Hi Tracy,

Callicarpa bodinieri var giraldii 'Profusion' likes to be fairly sheltered, and exposure to any extreme conditions – whether it be too hot, cold, wet or dry, can result in problems. Whereabouts is yours sited? Do you think this could be a problem?

Also for maximum vigour and yield, you should prune this plant back to a permanent framework every spring (once the buds have begun to swell). I would also try applying a liquid feed fairly regularly (about once a month) throughout the growing season, and try to keep moisture levels fairly even throughout the year, i.e. watering freely when hot and dry, and not very much in winter. This plant likes conditions to be fairly constant, which is why any extreme fluctuation as mentioned above will cause problems.

Hope this helps! Remember to add to your ‘plants I have’ list to receive regular care updates. Plant not doing well.
Hardly any berries in Autumn.
Leaves look discolored, with brown yellowish leaves.

What could I be doing wrong?
Any particular feed?

Thanks
Tracy
