my lawn was laid by my builders and unfortunately, the soil wasn't tamped down as well as it should have been. Now I have a lumpy lawn. Additionally, the drainage seems to be patchy - well drained in some areas and almost boggy in others. Any ideas/suggestions on how to recover? Or am I best served having new turf laid in the spring by professionals?

  • Your lawn problem

Unfortunately you have made the mistake many people make by not getting in a professional contrcator who knows and deals with lawns. Also anyone who requires to have a new lawn laid either by turf or see should provide contrcators with a specification and seek three tenders.
What can you do now...live with it until the Spring and then see how bad and if it has settyled during the winter. It is difficult to know exactly what the problem is without seeing the 'patient' however I would think that the preparation was skimped the sub soil was not consolodidated correctly and certainly not raked to level before laying the turf. I dont know what you paid the builder but ave you asked him to come back and rectify the problem? you should if you are not happy like any product if it has been charged for it should serve the purpose for which it was intended. It is worth a try.
You may well be advised to start again in the spring when I would be pleased to send you a proper specification for you to use.

we spent a small fortune this year digging up vast patches of lawn and laying soak away's. This has helped tremendously in some area's but others are still as bad. We have lots of large tree's that take most of the light in the bad area's and as such very little sunshine which could be responsible. We were advised that underground pipes would help but they are invasive and expensive. I have decided to "go with it" next year and site a pond and bog garden in the worst patch.
