I propogated some crinodendrum from seed last autumn. They are about 3 inches high currently with 5 to 10 leaves and still indoors now (april 2022).has anybody else experience with this? Would love to compare notes.

Hi Noel,
So sorry to hear about your Crinodendron - they are beautiful plants. Since it flowers from late spring into late summer, it sort of falls into two pruning categories - 8 or 9. The best time to renovate yours is late winter/early spring. Cut right back to live growth, right above a bud.

Hi, My Grandmother planted a Chilean lantern tree about 50 plus years ago. It has spread very wide and high. Unfortunately due to last years very cold winter most of it has died. Only now has several branches shown some life. I'm wondering what time of year is it best to cut off the dead branches? Also what is the recommended way of doing it?

Hello,

Crinodendron hookerianum is generally propagated by taking semi-ripe cuttings. I can’t find information in any literature about propagating this plant from seed, which would imply it’s not the most effective way of doing it. A good guide to taking semi-ripe cuttings can be seen here.
