Hi, Moira, Probably not necessary. But this coming spring (typically in May but if the spring is warm, you'll want to do it sooner), apply a 10cm band of sticky, insect-trapping material on the trunk of the tree. This will trap the crawling, flightless adults before they can reach the leaves. Other option is to use an insecticide spray at night when the adults are active. This typically isn't highly effective, though. All the best, Kathy C
