Best grown in poor, rocky, well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates clay. Does not tolerate prolonged winter frosts. In cold areas, plant against a warm wall and protect from strong, cold winds. A tough plant tolerating drought and heat, suitable for erosion control on hot, dry slopes. Highly flammable and should be planted away from structures, particularly in hot, dry areas prone to wildfires. Flammability is reduced
