Species

A. bockii is an upright, tuberous perennial with two leaves divided into five broadly elliptic, toothed, dark green leaflets and, in mid- to late spring, a cylindrical flower spike enclosed by a hooded, dark purple spathe, white-striped inside. Female flowers are followed by spherical, red fruit.

Cultivation

Plant rhizome in winter or spring, 20cm deep in moist or moist but well-drained, neutral to acid soil in cool, partial shade. Do not allow to dry out. Mulch in winter. Tolerates sun if sheltered and soil is reliably moist. Dislikes heavy clay. Under glass, grow in clay pots in equal mix loam, leaf mould & grit in bright, filtered light.
