A. falcatus is a tender, scrambling or climbing, evergreen perennial with thorny stems bearing narrowly lance-shaped to linear, glossy, dark green leaves and racemes of fragrant, star-shaped, white flowers in summer. Flowers are followed by spherical, bright red fruit, each containing a single, glossy, black seed.
