Not being an expert - I stand to be corrected on my following comments :)
Dicentra Bacchanal formosa - is listed her on shoot as being in flower spring to early summer. Which means it prefers lower temperatures.
Not sure how far south you are but I have been to Brisbane/Gold Coast Queensland during your 'winter' (mid July) and it is a lot warmer than it gets here in Scotland during summer.
I have 2 different dicentras and these both like a bit of shade. I will say that my Dicentra Spectabilis Alba was finished flowering by May, I cut it right back and they have re grown and flourished this summer, so they can obviously stand warmer weather (Max temp here in summer is around 22-24 degs). Do they not have a thing called a 'shade house' in warmer climates, the opposite of use having a greenhouse. If you could provide shade then this plant may work.
Another thought is that if you are able to buy this plant where you are then there must be a way of keeping it. Have you asked at the Garden Centre/Nursery?

Hi, thanks for this site, I love it! (even though I'm 'down under'!) As I'm in the south east of Australia would I be well advised to grow the Bleeding Heart in a pot or could it be on the eastern side of my house, where it gets some sun in the summer and can be warm at times (we can have hot summers)? Thanks, Maureen.
