Cultivation

Grow in deep, rocky or sandy, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun. Drought tolerant once established. Avoid waterlogged conditions, particularly in winter. Fixed nitrogen in the soil. In its native habitat, grows at elevations from 600-3,000m (2,000-10,000'). A valuable food source for birds, small mammals, livestock, and wild grazing animals.
