Solanum is a genus of approximately 1,500 species of annuals, biennials, perennials, climbers, shrubs, and trees from a variety of habitats worldwide with lobed or pinnate leaves and single, umbels, cymes, or panicles of small, bell-, trumpet-, or star-shaped flowers followed by ovoid or spherical fruit.
