Zea

Zea is a genus of about five species of annuals or perennial grasses from disturbed ground or field margins in Central America with sturdy stems bearing lance-shaped leaves, panicles of spike-like male flowers, and female flowers enclosed in a husk which are followed by fleshy kernels.
