Cultivation

Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Planting is best done in late winter or early spring. Best fruit production occurs in full sun but appreciates afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Needs shelter from cold, drying winds. One of the few hollies that produces fruit without a male pollinator.
