'Marlene' is an upright, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with finely divided, hairy, grey-green leaves and, from late spring into summer, erect, bristly stems bearing large, papery, short-lived, reddish-purple to reddish-pink flowers with purple centres, marked black at the base of each petal.
